Built in 1958 by Southern Pacific as a class C-50-28 drop bottom gondola with Bettendorf trucks, this car was one of 15 that received a two foot extension of the sides in 1963, increasing their cubic capacity for less-dense cinder loading. Southern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 until 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.
