“The total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024, also known as the Great North American Eclipse, was visible across
much of the contiguous United States and parts of Mexico and Canada. A solar eclipse occurs when the
Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, obscuring the Sun. A total solar eclipse, like this one, occurs when
the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun's, blocking all direct sunlight across a limited path on the
