Canadian National - Road #: CN 289004
This 50' standard boxcar with plug door and no roofwalk is painted light grey with two large blue bands to the right of the door. Lettering is done in black with black end print. CN 289004 was originally built in April 1965 by National Steel Car Company from an earlier series insulated boxcars. In January of 1981, to combat high energy costs, CN Rail’s Montreal car shops in Point St. Charles, Quebec, took five cars from the 283 series, removed their heating equipment, improved their insulation and renumbered them into the XPI “SuperTherm” 289 series. All five cars were off the roster by October 1994.
