These 100-ton 3-bay open hoppers with rib sides and coal load are black with white lettering and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1971 in an order of 4,000 cars for Norfolk & Western Railroad, it was painted in the new simplistic “NW” scheme. This car was used in coal service and had a 3,420 cubic foot capacity. Norfolk & Western was a Class 1 railroad headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia. Today, it is now part of the Norfolk Southern system following a 1980 merger with Southern Railway.
