Their Clearing Yard was the largest freight yard in the world when completed in 1902. In addition to the transfer runs and yard switching, BRC has always had a large number of on line customer spurs to serve (even today they have about a hundred!) BS-73811 C&S 70T 3-Bay Hopper

Colorado & Southern (Red and Black) - 70-Ton, 3-Bay, Offset-Side Hopper

This group of C&S hoppers was built during the summer of 1961, probably by C&S’s parent Chicago Burlington & Quincy in their Havelock Shops. Havelock had built thousands of identical hoppers for “the Q” since 1948. In addition to the C&S reporting marks, this group also differed from most of the CB&Q cars in that the bottoms of the cars were painted black instead of the same Chinese Red used on the sides and ends.

Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific (As Delivered) - 70-Ton, 3-Bay, Offset-Side Hopper

In 1928, the Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul emerged from a 7 year receivership as the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific. This would remain their full name until the merger with Soo Line in 1985 however a nickname came into use early on. People referred the line as “the Milwaukee” or “the Milwaukee Road.” For many years following the reorganization, hoppers received this paint scheme with CMSt.P&P reporting marks and “MILWAUKEE” lettering.

BS-73831 CP 70T 3-Bay Hopper : N Scale : Available

BS-73831 CP 70T 3-Bay Hopper

Canadian Pacific (As Delivered) - 70-Ton, 3-Bay, Offset-Side Hopper

Canadian Pacific relied heavily on this style of hopper. Although they followed the AAR standard design in most every other respect, the lion’s share of CP’s cars had the center hopper bay reversed so the hopper doors faced the B-end of the car. For the first time, we are replicating this unusual feature on our cars. This paint scheme featuring the 9” lettering was the standard until the adoption of the script style lettering in 1963. However cars in this paint scheme were still routinely seen through the 1980s.
